Five months after Hurricane Katrina set off the largest, most costly disaster relief operation in the nation’s history, the American Red Cross announced that current financial donations and pledges will cover the estimated $2.116 billion cost for its response to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. The Red Cross asks donors to support the ongoing needs of hurricane survivors by giving to the countless other charities and non-profit organizations that continue to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts. For a list of some agencies, visit www.usafreedomcorps.gov.

These colossal disasters make the news—but most emergencies don't. A house fire or a loved one needing CPR may not be newsworthy, but they're a tragedy for those involved.

In every single case, it is mission of the American Red Cross to be there and help those in need—whether disaster strikes thousands of people at once...or one family in the middle of the night.

Our job is never done—people always need us—every single day. Please help us continue our lifesaving work, with a secure online gift today!

While large disasters capture the headlines, it is more important than ever to support your local Red Cross in their daily work. In just the last year, Red Cross chapters around the country have responded to more than 70,000 disasters, such as house and apartment fires.

They also are training staff and volunteers in emergency preparedness, teaching first aid and CPR classes and delivering messages for members of the Armed Forces and their families as well as collecting lifesaving blood.

Your contribution means that we can continue to provide these vital services.
Your gift today, will provide hope and relief tomorrow.

Financial contributions to the American Red Cross are tax-deductible.

Matching Gifts -- Your gift could be matched dollar for dollar!
Many companies offer matching gift programs that will double, even triple a donation's value. Check with your company or visit this online directory of matching gift companies to find out if your company will match your contribution to the American Red Cross. If you have questions about your company's matching gift program, please contact your personnel office.

The American Red Cross is not a government agency and all Red Cross disaster assistance is free thanks to the generosity of people like you. The value of your donation is increased by the fact that the ratio of volunteer Red Cross workers to paid staff is almost 36 to one. Contributions to the American Red Cross, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes.
