To All Alcoa Employees:

We have all been saddened by news of the earthquake that hit southwestern China on May 12. The 7.8-magnitude tremor devastated many towns and cities in the Sichuan area, emptied office buildings across the country in Beijing and Shanghai, and could be felt as far away as Vietnam and Thailand. The death toll is currently around 15,000 and is expected to rise as rescue efforts intensify.

Although Alcoa's locations in China felt the tremor, we are fortunate that none of our facilities or employees were harmed. To help the thousands of people who were affected, Alcoa has donated 1 million RMB (approximately US$150,000) to the Red Cross Society of China for disaster relief. Jinya Chen, president of Alcoa Asia Pacific, is working with the local relief efforts and has communicated directly with all of our employees in the region.

Many employees around the world have expressed interest in making personal monetary contributions to help the victims. Alcoa Foundation has worked with the Red Cross to set up a dedicated Alcoa page on their website that will accept and track all donations from Alcoa employees. The outpouring of concern from our senior leaders and employees has once again confirmed our strong values. I'm proud that Alcoa is able to quickly mobilize resources to help others across our global organization. A sincere thanks to all of you.

CHINA EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
On May 12, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Sichuan province in southwestern China, killing thousands of people. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including the Red Cross Society of China, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster.

Your gift to the American Red Cross will support emergency relief efforts to help those affected by this earthquake. Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources.
