Hello Friends! I have decided to complete one of my lifelong goals and run The Boston Marathon.
As many of you know, I was slated to run the NYC Marathon this past November, but due to the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, the race was cancelled.
I was working the NYC Marathon Expo handing out bibs and giving information when the NYC marathon was cancelled. I personally knew very little of the devastation that had taken place only a few miles away, as I was without power for 4 days. With the race going past the huge gas lines, and part of the Staten Island village in an already decemated region, the city cancelled the race so that NYers could focus on rebuilding and we could start to heal as a city.
So I decided to take my passion for running and put it to a good cause!
The Red Cross is stilll in the Rockaways and Staten Island assisting with the aftermath (as of Dec 10th) . Many of the people dispatched to help are not even from NYC, close to 11,000 volunteers have come from all over the United States to help with the aid. This is the biggest relief effort that The Red Cross has done in the past 5 years.
In case you don't know, for Hurricane Sandy victims The Red Cross's work has included:
- -feeding volunteers and displaced victims
- -providing 35,000 hot Thanksgiving meals
- -giving relief supplies (water, towels, buckets and mops, cleaning supplies, blankets, clothing, etc.)
- -provide a warm place to rest while victims are waiting to be served food
- -replenishing supplies to relief centers and food banks
- -cleaning and providing cots for relief shelters
Your donation helps ALL of the good work The American Red Cross does! In addition to the Hurricane Sandy relief, The Red Cross continues to dispatch volunteers throughout the GLOBE who provide critical programs and services to people in need: Health and Safety Training; Food and Nutrition Programs; Health Care Job Trainnig; Services to Armed Forces; Youth Programs! So I'm going to raise $4,000 to benefit the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. The Eastern Mass chapter staffed 9 shelters alone in Connecticut immediately following the hurricane. This chapter is one of the largest Red Cross chapters in the nation, serving 181 communities with a population of five million residents. Your donated dollars will help the Easter Massachusetts chapter continue the wonderful work that the Red Cross does.
Your donations fund the AMAZING work the Red Cross does. No donation is too small!
Thank you for your support!
